James Stunt has told his £266million money-laundering trial how he was dumped by his billionaire heiress ex-wife just weeks after she threw him a 'lavish' birthday bash - which featured a performance from Sean Combs aka P Diddy.
Stunt, 40, told a jury at Leeds Cloth Hall Court today how Formula 1 heiress Petra Ecclestone picked up the bill for his 35th at the exclusive London nightclub Tramp - which was held in honour of his older brother Lee Stunt, who had died months earlier.
He also revealed how he was the subject of a 'traumatic' burglary which saw him 'garrotted and pistol whipped', and told the court that he had bundles of cash due to his gambling habit.
The revelations came as Stunt is accused of being at the centre of a money-laundering operation which involved the transfer of tens of millions of pounds in cash between his company and NatWest bank.
He denies all charges.
Recalling his birthday party in honour of his late brother, he said: 'It was the only time we smiled since he died.'
The 'lavish' affair featured P.Diddy, who Stunt said performed and 'waived half the fee because it was me.'
'It was a lovely event and Diddy sang an emotional song,' he said.
His wife Petra Ecclestone 'picked up the bill as a birthday present' but within weeks their marriage had collapsed.
'We separated over a trivial argument that snowballed two months later,' he told the jury.
Recalling the party, he added: 'She gets up on stage and says if we can get through last year we can get through anything but two months later she leaves.
It was nothing to do with this trial.'
Stunt denied the prosecution claim that he became involved in money-laundering in 2015 when his marriage was falling apart and the 'river of money' from the Ecclestone family was drying up.

On one occasion in 2012 Stunt allegedly provided mother-in-law Slavica Ecclestone (pictured with Bernie Ecclestone) with £500,000 cash to help him buy a £2million Monet painting.
She was needed to help as she was a Swiss resident, he said

'It was a falsehood, there was no problem with my marriage whatsoever at that point,' he said.
Stunt claimed he became 'more ostentatious' after his marriage split and continued to give cash away generously.
Describing how his life spiralled out of control from 2016, he said his brother Lee's death in September, followed days later by a police raid on his offices in Mayfair, had a devastating impact.
The following year he said his wife left him and he also became addicted to cocaine.
The other trauma was an aggravated burglary at his home in which he said he was 'struck with a gun butt and garroted' and Gila a gun held to his girlfriend Helena Robinson's head by raiders.
'I took cocaine for the first time after my brother's death and my wife leaves me and took my children, get burgled and pistol whipped and called a liar,' he said.
He added: 'What have they done to the justice system to make them treat me this way?'
Stunt also recalled happier times at the start of his relationship with Petra.
